SEARCH FOR GLORY

Africa’s prospects in the run-up to the 1998 World Cup in France had never seemed brighter. Nigeria’s memorable performance in 1994 had inspired Africans to believe that an African team could possibly even make the final. Search for Glory documents the history and commitment of African football through the qualifiers for ’98 and the efforts of other teams who would be back in later years.

This extraordinary sports documentary reveals the first African superstar in Morocco’s Larbi Ben Barek, and other great stars such as Eusébio, Milla, Weah and Abedi Pele. The film also follows South Africa’s late dramatic re-entry into the African Nations Cup as hosts, after many years of isolation, and shows how Nelson Mandela’s support and presence throughout the tournament led to a rousing home victory against Tunisia.

Through unique on-field moments, and off-field analysis and interviews, the film traces Africa’s winners and losers in their search for footballing glory.
