João is a puppeteer who has no need for lavishness in is life: a corner to raise his theatre will suffice; a tree under which he can stretch his hammock is good enough. But he fells in love with Maria. As he tries to evade the police, with a little help of his friends, he stumbles into unexpected fortune: a huge yet vacant palace in ruins. He makes himself home, together with Maria. Bit by bit, the young woman who promised to herself to never trust anyone is seduced by João's confidence and sheer sweetness. They decide to build together their own nest. Although both of them are flat broke, they won't have things done halfway! Communicating vases for running water, levers to carry the soup across small distances. and as for furniture, they'll have it painted on the wall. Until the day comes when they're thrown out by the demolition team, so they stride out towards the rising sun. There's no end unless you give in to one. This movie,
tender as freshly baked bread, hasn't one.
