Tony is a trapezist who gets a job at a small circus, controlled under the iron hand of Miss Dolly. When a tempest takes away the canvas, Tony has already a strong reason not to abandon the troupe: the beautiful Belmira who could be a rider. if they hadn't sold the ride. They play at the open-air, sleep under the stars, scrimp and save every penny, and soon there's a new tent to be bought. on credit. All would be perfect if it wasn't for Belmira's unhappiness, if it wasn't for her dream of a real home, while Tony's dreams are tangled with those of the circus and the spectacle. But the gloomy days are back, and the audiences are eager for more. Belmira decides to run away and it's Miss Dolly who is forced to take the place at the trapeze. an accident is unavoidable and the old, courageous woman artist dies. At the break of dawn, the tent is disassembled and taken away by the creditors. The small crew, strongly united by misfortune,
sets off towards new horizons.
