UNKNOWN ISLANDS
The Azores Islands, set halfway between Europe and America are still one of the best kept natural paradises left on Earth. In 1924, Portuguese writer Raúl Brandão left for the Azores on board of a steam cruiser. During that journey he wrote one of the best and most underrated travel books of Portuguese Literature. Driven by the book’s strongly impressive depictions and images of life and landscape, Portuguese filmmaker Vicente Jorge Silva leads us through the Islands, trying to find what has changed and what remained untouched 85 years after Brandão’s inaugural journey. What forces lie there, in the middle of the Atlantic, in a land of eternal volcanoes, deep dark forests, blue lagoons and fearless whalers, that still today we’re brought so close to Earth’s deep ancestral mysteries?
